Notes from the songwriter of Living in La-odice'a:
If we are living just prior to the second coming of Christ, then the message to the Church of La-odice'a may be the most important scripture for Christians today. I had this in mind when I wrote many of the songs on this CD.
Later, when I began to assemble the CD, many of the songs mirrored verses from Revelation 3:14-22. This led me to add the scripture passages to the songs and made "Living in La-odice'a" the theme of the CD.
Here is a brief description of what was on my mind as I wrote each of the songs -
(It's just about) Time to go home
Revelation 3:14 And to the angel of the church in La-odice'a write: 'The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.
This song is an overview of Revelation 3:14-22.
I want to give you my all
Rev 3:15-16 'I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.
Upon hearing this verse, a Christian needs to take dramatic action, to repent and live a life dedicated to Christ. This song was written with this in mind.
I wonder
You live or die forever
Rev 3:17 'For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing; not knowing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
These two songs take different approaches in urging one to recognize the error of their ways and to repent. Both songs emphasize our mis-perception of success.
I wonder was written when thinking about people like Hendrix, Joplin and Lennon.
You'll live or die forever is also based on Ephesians 6:12 'For we contend not with flesh and blood, but with spiritual principalities.'
Set your spirit free
Perfect love
Rev 3:18 'Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich, and white garments to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.
These songs encourage us to refocus on the spiritual things, God and His love. Perfect love was taken from the book of 1 John.
I've got a Lord
A simple song
Revelation 3:19 'Those whom I love, I reprove and chasten; so be zealous and repent.
I've got a Lord was based upon the Psalms 23 'The Lord is my shepherd". Psalms 23 describes what walking in a right relationship with God is.
A simple song is a reminder of the simplicity of the Gospel.
He wants you
The only real music
Revelation 3:20 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
He wants you is a simple evangelical plea.
The only real music is a plea to turn from the world and allow God to work through your life.
I've got a home in heaven
Rev 3:21 He who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
This song, while humorous, is a serious reminder that while we live in this world, with all our stuff and issues, that our real home is in heaven.
Holy, Holy Spirit
Rev 3:22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'"
Holy, Holy Spirit is a prayer to the Holy Spirit. Each line is based on a different bible verse.
The activity of Holy Spirit is central to the success of church and our individual lives. This song acknowledges His role, then asks the Holy Spirit to fill us and work through our lives.
